What to do with a little girl...

When the ultrasound technician told Austin and I that we were having a little girl, Austin became very quiet and started to sweat a bit. I of course was elated with joy and began to think of all the wonderful blessings a little daughter would bring to our world. As I was spurting out my thoughts to Austin he just stayed quiet. The tech left the room and Austin looked at me and said very sweetly “what am I going to do with a little girl?”. Austin soon embraced the idea of a daughter but often asked me throughout the pregnancy what he would do with a little girl. I reassured him that there would be plenty of things, although, he never seemed to believe me. I am pretty sure he has now figured it out and I wanted to share a little video of what Austin does with his little girl…

(As a side note, Austin had no clue he was on video and “Ah-Goo” is Lily’s favorite thing to say so Austin likes to pretend that Ah-Goo is Lily’s ethnic friend)

During the last month or so of my maternity leave Austin took on Lily’s first feeding of the day. Austin is a morning person and loves his morning routine of waking up, getting a cup of coffee and reading through his various cycling related websites. I knew feeding Lily at 6:30 am would disrupt this routine but he gladly took on the feeding and I am pretty sure it has become his most favorite time of the day. After giving Lily her bottle, Austin will prop her up in her rocking chair and sit across from her on the ottoman. He then gets out all of Lily’s stuffed toy animals and lines them up around her and plays with Lily using the toys as characters that have come to play and chat with Lily. Lily loves this; she just sits there with a huge smile and “talks” to Austin and all of her toys. It has become one of my most favorite things to watch as Lily just lights up around Austin and he is so sweet with her. He is such a good dad to Lily and I am so glad he has figured out that all a little girl wants from her daddy is love and Lily is very loved by her daddy.
